I read an article in the newspaper about how lots of people are cashing in and all they do is sell old gold jewelry. The price of gold has apparently gone way up over the past year and continues to rise. Jewelers take the old gold pieces, and melt them down in some cases and make new pieces.

I guess that if some of the pieces that are being sold are nice, they are being resold for a higher amount than what was given to the seller.
